Sarah Morey’s New EP

Blazes

with Untamed Spirit and Heartfelt Grit

Sarah Morey’s new EP, "Mama, All The Cowboys Call Me Wild!" bursts with vibrant energy and encapsulating storytelling. The EP delves into themes of empowerment, acceptance, independence, and resilience offering a window into the inspiringly wild life of country artist Sarah Morey.

Each track not only showcases her powerful voice and emotive delivery but also weaves a narrative of determination and strength.

“Wild”

Sarah Morey opens her EP with the inspiring and energetic track “Wild,” setting the stage with a powerful statement on independence, acceptance, and self-confidence. “Wild” encompasses a conversation between Morey and her mother who cautions her against pursuing cowboys from the west painting the idea as unattainable with lyrics like,

“I know if I try and chase one

It's like chasing the damn sunset”

Initially, Morey acknowledges the self-doubt with the lyrics,

“And I know I ain't from where they're from

I don't talk with the same accent”

However, in the chorus, she challenges her mothers perception of her as merely a “city-tame” girl, asserting her own independence and sense of self. The chorus reinforces the idea that the difference between Morey and the cowboys is a strength with the repeated phrase,

“Mama, all the cowboys call me wild!”

Musically, “Wild” is a dynamic track, featuring a full band, driving beat, and an electric guitar solo that gets listeners moving. The use of male “cowboy” voices, cheering and clapping in the final chorus to the end is a fantastic use of artistry that speaks to Morey’s nature. “Wild” not only sets a confident tone for the EP but also provides listeners a look into her charismatic personality, celebrating themes of acceptance and empowerment.

“Tame”

Following the opening track, “Tame” stands as a testament to Morey’s resilience. Delving into themes of determination, the pursuit of dreams, and resiliency, Tame is a remarkable addition to the EP reflecting on Morey’s move to Nashville.

“Tame” begins with Morey referencing her upbringing in Tampa Bay and explaining her decision to leave for “Music City” with the lyrics,

“The sunshine sure is pretty

But the leaves never change.”

The chorus juxtaposes elements of calm and chaos with the references of “the wildest wind” settling and the “wildest horse” breaking she then follows this with the lyrics,

“You can put me out

or drag me down

I’ll never be tame”

By starting the chorus with the juxtapositions of calm and chaos and ending the chorus with the certainty that she’ll never be “tame” she powerfully illustrates that her drive and ambition are stronger than forces of nature.

The second verse references the adversities Morey faced moving to Nashville with the lyrics,

“Little girl you wont get nothing

unless you know your place”

She follows this with the reason she is still adamantly chasing this dream: for as long as people still love her music, she will not give up.

Musically, the track begins with a subdued, dreamy soundscape that complements the nostalgic feel of the lyrics. As the song progresses, the chorus introduces a more dynamic shift, with the full band amplifying Morey’s “can’t be tamed” and “wild” nature. This contrast effectively underscores the themes of determination and independence in the song.

“Betty”

Morey’s song “Betty” beautifully celebrates the depth, grace, patience, and love of her grandmother Betty, while also expressing how Morey aspires to embrace life’s challenges and joys with the same endearing spirit that Betty did. “Betty” delves into themes of strength and living life to the fullest extent. The song tells the narrative of Betty’s life and the obstacles she overcame – from her humble beginnings and marrying a fisherman, despite societal doubts, to overcoming the loss of her first husband and finding love again. Morey opens the track comparing the life of Betty to that of a wildflower coming from dirt expressing the hand life had dealt her. Morey then expands on the metaphor in a positive light with the lines,

“I wanna live life in the sun and blow in the wind like Betty did”

conveying a deep admiration for the free-spirited life of Betty. Musically, Morey employs a slower, more contemplative rhythm, truly complementing the sentimental nature of the song, effectively tugging at the heartstrings of listeners.

“Break It (feat. Gwynn Sisters)”

“Break It” is another standout track from the EP, featuring the Gwynn Sisters. This song explores themes of heartbreak and vulnerability, showcasing Morey’s signature “wild” nature while acknowledging that she is not impermeable to love. Although her heart may be untamed, it is not immune to being broken. Through poignant lyrics and an emotive delivery, Morey captures the paradox of maintaining one’s free spirit while still being deeply affected by romance. Morey enforces this idea with the lyrics,

“They say wild hearts don't break

But when you first said my name

I knew that you'd have your way with mine”

And ending the chorus with,

“My wild heart you can't tame it

But cowboy you can break it tonight.”

“Break It” is a vulnerable track offering listeners a glimpse into the reality of a wild, free spirit. It reveals the vulnerability behind an untamed heart, illustrating that even the most independent souls can be deeply affected by love and heartbreak.

“Harley”

Closing the EP, “Harley” is a vibrant track that captures the essence of its free-spirited namesake. The song displays themes of freedom, nonconformity, and personal fulfillment through the life of Harley.

From the moment we meet Harley through the lyrics, it is clear that she is a force to be reckoned with. Described as a “child of the wind” Harley exudes confidence and the belief to be unapologetically yourself. Despite financial struggles, her life is portrayed as rich in love and emotional wealth. Morey sets up the chorus as Harley being someone she looks up to and that she embodies ending the chorus with,

“ yeah my parents raised me

but I got a little bit of Harley in me”

The track aligns with Harley's spirited nature with every note. The arrangement starts strong, capturing the vibrant energy and independence that defines Harley. The upbeat, lively composition complements the song's themes and enhances its portrayal of Harley's inspiring lifestyle. Overall, "Harley" not only closes the EP with a powerful message about embracing life and perseverance but also delivers a compelling musical experience that resonates with the essence of its protagonist.
