Jenna Feeney: “Stick with beer”

Jenna Feeney’s new single

Pours a Glass of

Heartache and Growth in a Nostalgic Anthem of Change

Jenna Feeney’s new single “Stick With Beer” is a testament to embracing change. Through its evocative lyrics and imagery, “Stick With Beer” deals with themes of nostalgia, loss, and acceptance, encouraging listeners to self-reflect on their own experiences.

“Stick with Beer” tells the story of Feeney self reflecting on a past love and associating that loss with her preference in alcohol. By associating beer with a simpler, more controlled life and contrasting it with her previous lack of preference, she emphasizes the difference between her past and present lifestyles. Feeney immediately evokes nostalgia in listeners by opening the song with,

“I used to hate the way it tasted

Reminded me of high school basements

And drinking games back in charleston”

By starting the song with these lines, she sets it up for listeners to know the implication of what only drinking beer means for Feeney, further establishing the contrast between her past and current self.

The chorus delves into detail of Feeney's past spontaneous drinking preferences and introduces listeners to the reason for the dramatic lifestyle change with the lyrics,

“Cause I can't trust who i become

when a drop of liquor hits my tongue

The way i did back when you were here

So now i stick with beer”

This shift in alcohol preference symbolizes both literal and metaphorical self-growth and the impact of the loss of her past self and relationship.

Musically, “Stick With Beer” begins with a full band arrangement featuring drums, guitar, and piano allowing Feeney’s voice to soar on top. Feeney’s smooth, emotive voice allows for listeners to get lost in the rich soundscape and truly feel the emotion of the song. The synergy between Feeney's vocals and musical arrangement creates a cohesive and immersive experience. The music effectively sets the emotional tone with Feeney's voice guiding listeners through the narrative and its underlying feelings.

When asked about “Stick With Beer” Jenna Feeney states, "Writing 'Stick with Beer' was a deeply personal process; it's about recognizing the changes within oneself and embracing them." “Stick With Beer” is a beautiful addition to Feeney’s discography.
